‘No Way Home’ truly caused a frenzy in cinemas when we saw our three popular live-action actors—Tom Holland, Andrew Garfield, and Tobey Maguire—on the big screen. However, despite seeing a teaser for Miles Morales, we didn't encounter any other ‘Spideys’—just the Peter Parkers. I really hope that Miles is introduced as a live-action character in the MCU.
This is why I think ‘Spiderman: Across the Spiderverse’ is truly fascinating for Marvel fans. We get to see various types of Spidermen and Spiderwomen from the comics, such as Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy. They display such a vast range of different characteristics—unlike the three Peters, who led relatively similar lives. Miles Morales remains distinct from the other Spidermen.
To make the film even more enjoyable, we were treated to a clip from the store featured in the last scene of ‘Venom 1’, as well as clips of Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire's Spidermen. Miguel even mentioned what happened with Doctor Strange in Earth-199999 (The MCU Universe), which was incredibly exciting for fans in the cinema.
The rise of Miles Morales
Miles Morales went from adjusting to his new powers to outrunning hundreds of Spidermen in a short amount of time. His adaptation to his powers was incredibly fast, allowing him to compete against countless others of his kind and still emerge victorious. He is undeniably powerful. He proves to be a more powerful Spiderman, with abilities like invisibility and electricity powers.
Miles Morales' style
What truly sets Miles apart from other Spidermen is his style. Instead of the iconic red and blue ‘spidey suit’, he wears a black suit with a red spider and other red accents. This distinct attire makes him stand out in the crowd of spider people in the Spiderverse. Not only does he have a different spidey suit, but he also has a unique clothing style when presenting as a human.
While Holland’s/Garfield’s/Maguire’s Peter Parker tends to wear nerdy clothing, Miles prefers comfortable attire, often sporting a basketball vest and Jordans. In terms of personality, Peter is portrayed as being highly interested in school (almost described as geeky), whereas Miles doesn't show much interest in academia. However, this doesn't hinder his performance as a student; Miles Morales is also very intelligent.
The power of animation
‘Spiderverse’ pays homage to comic books through its animation style, which aims to provide a comic book experience to fans. The films incorporate thought bubbles, panel transitions, vibrant colours and comic book patterns and textures. The animation helps to visually portray multiple dimensions and versions of Spiderman, enabling clear differentiation between each universe and its Spidey. The film's animation style also pushes the boundaries of what is typically seen in animated films, experimenting with hand-drawn elements, halftone patterns, and layered visual effects. The attention to detail immerses the audience in a vibrant world, enhancing the cinematic experience for fans.
The ending
That ending was truly unexpected! What a cliffhanger!
Part two is set to be released on March 24th, 2024. I can't wait to watch this movie. Hopefully, we get a scene where Miles tells his mum from his own universe rather than an alternate one. And the prospect of Miles versus Miles? This film is undoubtedly going to leave a significant impression on Marvel fans, I can assure you of that.
